General Superintendent

Remote (Nationwide Travel) · Full Time - Direct Hire · $155,000 - $185,000

CDO GROUP Provides General Contracting services for Multi-Unit Retail Centers, Quick Service Restaurants, Fitness Centers, Etc.

About CDO:

Formed in 1998 by a group of client-side development professionals in an effort to address the changing and often unpredictable development schedules facing retail companies. CDO Group has quickly grown into one of the top firms servicing the multi-unit retail industry with thousands of successfully executed projects nationwide.

We are searching for an experienced General Superintendent to oversee and develop our field team of Superintendents across a national portfolio of Restaurant and Retail new construction and remodel projects. This is a remote-based role built around heavy nationwide travel rather than a single job site — you'll be the person our Superintendents call when something needs a second set of experienced eyes, and the one training the next generation of field leaders.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • 8+ years as a Superintendent in retail/restaurant construction, including ground-up and TI/renovation work

  • Prior experience mentoring, training, or supervising other Superintendents preferred

  • Extensive nationwide travel to support active projects — majority of work time spent in the field, not a home office

  • Recruit, onboard, and train new Superintendents on CDO's field processes, tools, and quality standards

  • Conduct regular site visits across all active projects to audit schedule adherence, safety compliance, documentation, and overall field execution

  • Serve as the escalation point for Superintendents on schedule, safety, or subcontractor issues beyond what a single-site PM/Super can resolve alone

  • Standardize and enforce field processes fleet-wide: 2-week lookaheads, daily reports, redlines/as-builts, JSAs, toolbox talks, and QC standards

  • Partner with Project Managers and the VP of Construction on staffing needs and Superintendent performance

  • Review daily reports (photos, deficiency tracking, RFIs) across sites for consistency and completeness; coach Superintendents on gaps

  • Oversee safety program consistency across all sites: AHJ/municipal inspection readiness, OSHA compliance, and safety audits

  • Build site-specific playbooks with assigned Superintendents when onboarding new client programs

  • Proficiency with MS Office/Excel and PM/photo tools (Procore or similar), with the ability to train others on them

  • Willing to travel/overnight extensively, including multi-day site visits

  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Knowledge, Experience and Special Skills Required

  • Minimum 8 years managing Restaurant and Retail construction projects (Tenant Improvement and Ground-Up), including at least 2+ years in a lead, mentorship, or multi-site oversight capacity

  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and hold field staff accountable

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to clients and VP-level leadership

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, and Microsoft Project

  • Ability to manage and prioritize across multiple concurrent projects and sites

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills

  • Passionate and dedicated to raising the quality bar across the field team

  • Trustworthy, self-motivated, and independent worker with strong team orientation

  • Drug screening and background check required
