CDO GROUP Provides General Contracting services for Multi-Unit Retail Centers, Quick Service Restaurants, Fitness Centers, Etc.
About CDO:
Formed in 1998 by a group of client-side development professionals in an effort to address the changing and often unpredictable development schedules facing retail companies. CDO Group has quickly grown into one of the top firms servicing the multi-unit retail industry with thousands of successfully executed projects nationwide.
We are searching for an experienced Director of Project Management to oversee and develop our team of Project Managers across a national portfolio of Restaurant and Retail new construction and remodel projects. This is a remote-based role built around heavy nationwide travel rather than a single project — you'll be the person our PMs escalate to, and the one training the next generation of project leaders.
Duties and Responsibilities
Oversee the entire Project Manager team across all active projects nationally, ensuring consistent schedule adherence and production standards from conceptual through construction phase
Partner with estimating to review and audit project budgets (hard and soft costs) across the full portfolio, not just a single job
Oversee PMs' day-to-day coordination with their Superintendents; step in on any project where that relationship needs support
Support PMs in securing building permits and contractor licenses; troubleshoot recurring jurisdictional issues across markets
Oversee vendor/material logistics practices company-wide; resolve recurring supply chain issues affecting multiple projects
Lead and participate in cross-project leadership meetings with the broader Project Team and VP of Construction
Serve as the escalation point for PMs on Architect, Owner, or Program Manager issues beyond a single project's scope
Recruit, onboard, and train new Project Managers on CDO's processes, tools, and standards
Review and coach PMs on contract negotiations with owners/subcontractors
Ensure blueprint/schematic review discipline and technical accuracy across the PM team
Oversee safety protocol compliance across every active project
Review and approve change orders across the portfolio; enforce consistent change-order discipline
Oversee pay application processes company-wide, coordinating with accounting across all projects
Oversee project close-out processes to ensure timely, consistent release of retention across all jobs
Extensive nationwide travel to support projects, clients, and the PM team — majority of work time spent in the field, not a home office
Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Knowledge, Experience and Special Skills Required
Minimum 8–10 years of experience managing Restaurant and Retail construction projects (Tenant Improvement and Ground-Up), including at least 2+ years in a leadership role overseeing other Project Managers
Degree in Construction Management, Business, or Engineering preferred, or comparable experience
Demonstrated ability to train, mentor, and hold PM staff accountable
Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to clients and executive leadership
Experience overseeing a portfolio of multiple simultaneous, geographically distributed projects
